At Wellbelle, we believe health is shaped by far more than workouts and what is on your plate. It is influenced by how you live, work, rest, connect, and care for yourself. Kara Watson is a health coach who helps women zoom out, find clarity, and create meaningful momentum without overwhelm or perfection. In this interview, Kara shares her perspective on whole life wellbeing, the power of small steps, and why there is no such thing as the wrong time to begin.
What originally drew you to health coaching, and when did you realise that health was about more than just food and exercise?
My journey into health coaching has been diverse! It didn’t start in one single moment, but evolved through different experiences in my life. In my early 20s, I went through some personally challenging times that led me to looking beyond traditional solutions. It was during that period that I was introduced to practices around mindset, self-awareness, and wellbeing. Those tools didn’t just help me get through a hard season, they genuinely changed the quality of my life, helped me get out of ruminating patterns and achieve goals I never thought were possible at the time. This is where I saw the magic of understanding your purpose, what’s possible and achieving goals.
Now, with 20+ years working in the corporate world, mainly in banking, leading commercial teams, I have seen first-hand how driven, capable people could still feel exhausted, disconnected, or stuck, even when they were “successful” on paper.
Becoming a Mum added another layer. When my first child was born and diagnosed with eczema, I found myself deep in research mode, trying to understand what was really going on beneath the surface. That search led me to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and once I started learning about integrative health, everything clicked. My passion for health and wellness truly exploded from there.
That was when I fully realised that health is about so much more than food and exercise. They’re incredibly important, but they’re only part of the picture. Our careers, relationships, home environments, stress levels, sense of purpose, and the way we move through our days all have a profound impact on our wellbeing. Health coaching became a way for me to bring all of those pieces together and help other women do the same in a way that fits real life, not a perfect one.
You talk a lot about whole life wellbeing. What does that actually look like in practice for busy women?
Whole life wellbeing is about having the awareness that our health and wellbeing is influenced by all areas of our lives, not only food and exercise. For busy women it’s being able to zoom out and reflect on how things are going in each area of their lives and where some areas may be impacting others. So often we think anxiety, stress or fatigue is to do with work, it very well could be however, it could also be connected to a relationship, or finances. Or that weight gain is related to food and lack of exercise however the root cause could actually be due to being unfilled in a career or job for example.
The work that I do helps women create awareness, gain clarity and focus on what matters rather than getting through day to day and feeling like they’re not making progress.
In your experience, what are the real root causes of feeling stuck, fatigued, or overwhelmed, even when someone feels like they’re doing all the “right” things?
Feeling stuck can come from a few things but often the real root cause is lack of purpose and clarity. We feel overwhelmed and tired when we feel we are juggling too many balls at once, dipping in and out of things. We can feel like we’re not getting anywhere or making progress because our minds are cluttered and we can’t focus. This can also show up in procrastination and in-action leading to further feelings of being stuck.
Clarity can feel hard to access in full seasons of life. How do you help women reconnect with what truly matters to them right now?
Absolutely, this can be the most challenging time. I help women reconnect to their purpose through practical tools and techniques to get really clear on what matters in the moment, reduce the clutter and focus on what matters.
What are some common mindset blocks that stop women from taking action, even when they know what they want?
The majority of women I work with tell themselves things like “I don’t have enough time” or they can’t start something until they’re perfect at it, or “I’m too busy” or “I’ll start the thing when life calms down”
Implementing some simple mindset re frames to these common thoughts can really assist with taking small steps forward.
You emphasise small steps over big changes. Why is this approach so powerful for creating momentum without burnout or the pressure of perfection?
Small steps create momentum. When we create momentum we see progress even if it’s really small progress. Progress creates confidence and it gets the ball rolling so to speak. If we can see that we are progressing and getting momentum it gives us the motivation to keep going.
If someone walks away from this interview or from your upcoming workshop with just one shift, what do you hope it is?
Awareness is key, so the shifts come from taking the time to get clear. If they’ve attended my workshop they can expect to come away with clarity on what they want, having taken their first steps forward and with a plan on how to continue taking action. If they’re reading this interview just knowing that they are capable of taking the time (as little as 30mins) to start creating clarity around what is important to them. From here they can start taking small actions towards their goals.
