Imogen French, founder of Cosmic Flow Healing is a yoga & meditation teacher, master reiki practitioner and energy healer. In this interview she shares how modalities like Reiki, acupuncture, and chakra balancing can address emotional blockages, reduce stress, and restore energetic flow for greater mental and emotional wellbeing.

What is energy healing and how does it relate to emotional health?
“Energy healing encompasses various modalities like Reiki, yoga, acupuncture, qi gong, and breathwork. At its core, it acknowledges that we are more than just our physical bodies; we are energetic beings. The challenge is that energy isn't visible. If you break your ankle, you can easily identify the problem and seek help. In contrast, the energetic body is subtle and often overlooked. We know how to care for our physical bodies, through exercise, hydration, and hygiene but we aren’t taught how to nurture our energetic selves. The physical body can endure neglect for a time, but eventually, it begins to break down.
The same is true for our energetic bodies. Ignoring this aspect can lead to blockages in our energy lines and centers, resulting in various problems. Emotions are energy in motion. They are meant to flow and be fluid. It’s impossible to remain in one emotional state forever. Each emotion carries valuable lessons, yet we often learn from a young age that some feelings are “bad” or socially unacceptable and should be hidden. This repression leads to blockages in the energetic body. There’s no such thing as being “too emotional.” When we resist feeling unpleasant emotions, we push them down, allowing them to fester within us.”
How are emotions connected to energy in the body?
“Emotions are designed to flow through our bodies, each creating different effects. Anger can spark a surge of energy, serving as a catalyst for change, while sadness might induce a sense of heaviness, prompting reflection and release. Emotions are our teachers, guiding us, but many of us fear them.”
What emotional issues can energy healing help address?
“A prevalent feeling associated with blocked energy is the sense of being stuck or trapped. When energy isn’t flowing freely, we may experience stagnation. Initially, we might cope well with these feelings, but over time, unresolved blockages can lead to physical problems like skin issues, digestive problems, aches, and sleep disturbances.”
How can someone tell if they have emotional blockages?
“Trust your intuition. If you feel drawn to explore energy healing, heed that call. I once talked myself out of trying Reiki for far too long and now wish I hadn’t wasted that time. If you’re contemplating this, what’s the worst that could happen? Don’t let doubts about believing in energy deter you; energy exists regardless of belief. Additionally, consider any physical symptoms that lack clear medical explanations, such as persistent headaches or digestive issues, these may signify trapped energy. Lastly, if you have unresolved issues (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), energy healing can help you process and release those emotions without delving into the backstory.”
How do different energy healing modalities support emotional well-being?
“The energy body is as intricate as the physical body, with energy centers and lines working together for smooth flow. When a blockage occurs, this system seeks alternative paths, slowing down the process. Imagine a complex road network where one blocked roundabout disrupts traffic flow; as more blockages occur, gridlock ensues. This can lead to myriad problems, often unrecognised by western medicine, which seeks single causes rather than holistic solutions. Modalities like Reiki, acupuncture, yoga, qi gong, and breathwork can support the health of your energy body. Restoring flow allows you to feel lighter and return to a natural state of ease. In this state, life’s external disturbances become easier to manage.”
What can someone expect during an energy healing session?
“Every session is a unique experience! In Reiki and yoga, many people feel deeply relaxed, sometimes noticing warmth or tingling in certain areas. While some may experience emotional releases, know that this process is gentle. It’s best to approach each session with an open heart and without expectations. Whatever you need in that moment will come up naturally, allowing for gradual and supportive emotional exploration. In my experience, sessions are never more intense than you are ready to handle. These modalities aren’t one-time solutions; committing to multiple sessions allows for gradual clearing of blockages.”
How do we know when we are fully healed?
“We never are! Life is a constant state of change, evolution, and flow. Each challenge is an opportunity to look at ourselves and see what we can learn. Regular attention to your physical body, mental body, and emotional body creates the best possible chance for your entire system to run as smoothly as it can. When you are in that strong, unified, healthy state, it is easier to handle the challenges that will inevitably come our way. Life is tough; all we can do is use the tools available to us to make us as strong as we possibly can be. Then we don’t have to worry about the future or any possible bad situation; we can relax knowing that whatever life throws at us, we will be able to handle.”
