At Wellbelle, we love connecting with women who are creating meaningful change, not just in their own lives, but in the lives of others. Beth Lewis is one of those women.
After more than two decades in the corporate world, Beth followed an inner calling to turn her personal healing journey into her life’s work. Now the founder of MYnd CENTRE, she helps women reconnect with themselves through breathwork, sound healing, and holistic coaching.
We spoke with Beth about self-healing, new beginnings and what it really means to come home to yourself.
Beth, can you share a bit about your background and what has led you to do the work that you do today?
Following a 21 year corporate career and always feeling like something was 'missing,' I knew I needed to make a change. I was very drawn to supporting others and turning wounds into wisdom! I'd had an intense health journey throughout my twenties, and it had taken me years to find the right multi-disciplinary team to help my body heal. (I spent approx. $11k in 1 year at one point, just trying to find some answers!) Most of the time I felt exhausted, in pain, struggling with sleep, digestive issues, heavy & painful periods, migraines, the list goes on! Every so-called "Specialist" I saw simply wanted to diagnose a symptom, give me medication and send me on my way! This never worked and it usually flared up another ailment of some sort. I felt helpless and broken on every level.
I eventually found some amazing leaders in their fields and these people became my multi-disciplinary team. They ranged from Integrative Doctors, Medical Herbalists, Massage Therapists, Physios, Hypnotherapists, Coaches, Spiritual Teachers, and Psychologists.
Working with these people, I quickly realised that when you work on your body, your mind and emotions follow; and when you work on your mind and emotions, your body follows. I was fuelling my body with organic, nutrient rich foods, taking the right (medical grade) supplements, moving and nurturing my body, paying attention to my mindset, limiting beliefs and triggers, releasing wounds and trauma, and focusing on personal development in every area of my life.
My marriage had just ended, so I decided to 'dip my toe in' to studying Food & Nutrition Coaching, as I thought I may consider becoming a Nutritionist, or Naturopath.
Upon completing this qualification I started my Coaching business (as a 'side-hustle' at that time) and based on my own health journey, I realised I wanted to add to my toolkit. I found the most results during my healing journey when I was working on myself holistically, so I was keen to turn my pains into my purpose and add new modalities that could support others to heal also. I became a Life Coach and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner which allowed me to work with my clients on a deeper level, accessing their unconscious mind, wounds and patterns. I have always been highly intuitive and craving a deeper understanding of human behaviour, so this felt like a language I had always naturally spoken. I seemed to get intuitive 'downloads' whenever I was in sessions with my clients and they would walk away feeling free, fulfilled, and focused on their healing journey.
When I discovered that I was pregnant with my son in 2019, I left the corporate world for good to step into my business full time and I have never looked back! I navigated my way through some dark times after becoming a mother and breathwork & sound healing literally saved my life! So of course I decided to study these modalities more and become fully qualified in 2024.
Empowering others to live a life that feels free and fulfilling, to heal their inner child, and to release wounds, belief systems and anything that may be holding them back lights me up inside. Most people don't realise that we do not have an autonomic response to relax, we need to learn how to regulate our nervous system! Seeing my clients shift from feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed, to living a juicy, balanced and joyous life is what gets me out of bed every day.
Can you describe a moment in your life that marked a significant ‘new beginning’ for you?
I never had the 'burning desire' to be a mum. At 37 years old and only 5 months into a new relationship, I spent over 7hrs in emergency following a weekend of feeling horrendous and suffering from abdominal pain, I thought something was really wrong with me. I’d had surgery for endometriosis the previous year and various health issues in the past so naturally my mind was racing with “what ifs.”
Numerous tests and physical exams later, the Doctor looked at me and said, “We need to have a different conversation and I believe congratulations may be in order!” I was terrified to turn around to look at my partner's face, (who I was close to breaking up with only hours before), but I took a deep breath and turned to him. Needless to say, he was in shock and clearly processing the news. All I could think was “OMG, my body does what it’s meant to, and it heard me.” I smiled.
The young, handsome British doctor could clearly see this was not ‘expected’ and in an anxious voice said “If it’s any consolation guys, this has never happened to me either… I’m not the one to discuss next steps with, so I’ll go and get your discharge paperwork organised and good luck to you both!” As he awkwardly exited the room, I nervously turned to my partner avoiding eye contact and I said “This is obviously quite a shock. No decisions need to be made at this moment. Let’s talk about this when we’ve had time to process.” I remember getting ready for bed that night and placing my hand over my belly. As I felt the emotion rise, I held my belly tight and whispered “I love you so much already.” To this day, I have no doubt that my son chose me to be his mum, the moment I decided I was ready and I have never looked back.
What limiting beliefs or old patterns did you have to let go of in order to create the life you live now?
There have been multiple layers to this on my journey... and the journey never ends! I had to overcome everything from being terrified to leave the corporate world as I was worried about money, worrying about whether or not I was good enough, if I knew enough, if single mums really can earn enough money and live a great life, if I did actually have the power to heal my body through thoughts and surrendering to my challenges... the list goes on.
"Where I have landed with this, is that surrendering to your healing journey is everything. You need to be willing to hold the mirror up to yourself and take radical responsibility for everything in your life. Presence is key. Patience is required. Perseverance is imperative."
Why do you think so many women hold themselves back and what advice would you give to someone currently lacking the confidence to begin something new?
It is incredible how many phenomenal women feel 'stuck' and terrified to make a change. The struggle is real! Unfortunately, many women have been conditioned to live as 'people pleasers' and depending on our childhood and life experiences, many of us go through life never feeling 'enough.'
My message to every woman is "don't be a CAN'T!" (My clients love this one... haha). Pay attention to your language - your language, belief systems and mindset create your reality. And guess what, this can be changed. Focus on having a growth mindset.
It's okay to feel broken sometimes, but this doesn't mean it's the end of your story. Even if you feel like it, you are never truly 'stuck.' Learn as many tools as you can to help you to regulate your nervous system. You move through life differently when you're regulated.
Get a Coach! Having someone to guide you and support you on your growth and healing journey is a game changer. You need someone to have your back and also to hold you accountable so you can grow.
How do childhood wounds and limiting beliefs impact us in adulthood and what small steps can someone take to start unravelling those patterns?
Most people who live with unresolved childhood wounds and trauma can struggle a lot in relationships with themselves or others, they can struggle with unconscious self-sabotage and a burning need to numb or suppress real emotion, they can live with anxiety, depression and/or a range of other health issues, and more. I highly recommend that every adult reads "The Body Keeps the Score".
Our neural pathways are wired very young, and the foundations of our values and belief systems are formed before the age of ten. Have you ever said something and thought, “OMG, that was my mother?” I believe every adult reaches a point in life where they need to stop and assess their belief systems and ask themselves whether they actually align with them as an adult. You’d be surprised how many people do this and realise, “Wow, that’s not even my belief!”
Bringing awareness to what may no longer serve you, or resonate with you is the first step. Then you need to be willing to 'do the work' to drop deeper within yourself and uncover your truest self. Truly connecting with yourself with a willingness to grow, heal and surrender is when your life really starts to transform.
If you could leave women with one piece of soulful advice as they step into a new season of life, what would it be?
The relationship you have with yourself is the longest and most important relationship you will ever have, so connect with and nurture YOU first! There is nothing to fix, improve, or change about you. Your job is simply to remember who you are... as everything you need is already inside you. You are enough, and you always have been.
